Interesting Points along the Way

Incline - 73 miles from Merced. Densely wooded country is here. From the train you can see a precipitous incline railway reaching to the timber belt above twelve miles away. This gravity railway, flat cars loaded with huge logs being started at the top and drawing up "empties" as they plunge at breakneck speed down the steep grade. These logs are then shipped to the mill at Merced Falls.
