C. H. WRIGHT
Charles Herbert Wright was bom January 29, 1870, in Ontario Province
Canada. He was a telegraph operator for the Grand Trunk Railway of
Canada at seventeen years of age, and remained until he was
twenty-one. Successive positions as telegraph operator, train dispatcher and
station agent took Mr. Wright into various places in Canada, United States,
and Mexico. He came to Merced in 1906, and up to 1915 was Agent and
Train Dispatcher for the Yosemite Valley Railroad. Since then, he has been the
New York Life Insurance agent here.
He married Maud L. Mackie of Oakland on November 19, 1907. There
were two children: Herbert M. Wright who died at the age of twenty-three;
and Helen Avis Wright, who graduated from the University of California
in 1935, and now has a secretarial position in San Francisco. Mr. Wright is
both a York Rite and Scottish Rite Mason, and a.Shriner. He is a Trustee
of the Elementary School Board and Secretary of the Rotary Club. Mr. and
Mrs. Wright and daughter are Presbyterians.
