The YOSEMITE VALLEY RAILROAD COMPANY

El Portal Photo #00 Photo: Edgar Cohen, Authors collection.
The original Yosemite Valley Railroad depot at El Portal, the terminus of the line. It was here that the horse drawn stages boarded passengers for Yosemite Valley. Later the YVRR built a very charming, log construction, depot. This picture is interesting - the "milk can" at the left must have contained drinking water, the dipper is hanging above it. Near the door the signs indicated express is handled and the white sheets left of the door were train schedules. Note the railroad clerk to the right of the depot.

Passengers in the train shed at El Portal and boarding stages

El Portal Photo #05 This picture may have been taken at Camp Curry or one of the other camps in the Valley. The platform might be for loading stage passengers. It depicts a El Portal Baggage sign and below it appears to be an express sign. To the left of the signs is the upper section of a Fairbanks scale.
